Eugene, OR – February 28, 2010 – In response to student concerns, the Associated Students of the University of Oregon’s (ASUO) 2010 Elections Board changed the Primary and General Election dates. The old dates were during the second and third weeks of Spring Term, which although enabled an additional week of campaigning, also demanded the attention of three full weeks of school. Current ASUO members expressed a strong favor for elections being completed before the third week of classes and midterms, in order to reduce everyone’s stress levels and maintain voter participation in the elections. There has been no change as to when campaigning can begin—campaigning cannot occur prior to the first week of Spring Term.

The new 2010 Primary and General Election dates are as follows:

-MARCH 29-APRIL 1: VOTING for PRIMARY Elections, 9am-7pm

-APRIL 5-8: VOTING for GENERAL Elections, 9am-7pm

The 2010 ASUO Elections Packet and forms have been revised and documents distributed prior to this press release have incorrect information. New packets and forms can be picked up at the ASUO Office, EMU Suite 4, or downloaded at the ASUO Elections website, http://www.uoregon.edu/~asuoelec, have updated documents.

The remainder of the 2010 Election dates have not changed; however, please understand that dates are subject to change at the discretion of the Elections Board.

For more election information please visit the ASUO Elections website athttp://www.uoregon.edu/~asuoelec or email the Elections Coordinator at asuoelec@uoregon.edu.
